18 West 95th Street

In 1965, rising starchitect James Stewart Polshek designed the interior of 18 West 95th Street. From the glass rear wall to the double height dining room, this home’s bold midcentury elements create a modern blueprint for a contemporary renovation.

This brownstone was Polshek’s first residential commission, and it remains a rare find. The architect designed only a few residences during his long and illustrious career. He went on to design or redesign public spaces including the Rose Center at the American Museum of Natural History, the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, the Brooklyn Museum, and Carnegie Hall.
